DomeShelter Structure at Citic Pacific Mine

Citic Pacific Mining was established to manage the construction and operation of Sino Iron, an integrated mining, processing and port operation located in the Pilbara Region of Western Australia.

Sino Iron is the largest magnetite mining and processing operation in Australia, located 100km south-west of Karratha. The ore is excavated from a traditional open-pit mine, then put through a rigorous beneficiation process at the on-site processing plant. The mine ultimately produces a high grade, premium magnetite concentrate for export to Asia.

DomeShelter Australia were approached by Citic to provide a series of Shelters, designed to protect large and valuable stators – critical parts needed for motors and generators – during the construction of the plant.

DomeShelter Australia provided six 12m wide by 18.3m long Super-Rise™ DomeShelter Structures to the Sino Iron site.

The Shelters had to allow easy partial dismantle to allow the stators to be craned in and out, while remaining fully sealed and weatherproof when re-assembled.

At the time, each stator was worth a few million dollars each and two were stored in each bay. Located in a Wind Region D – Cyclonic area, it was critical that the Shelter be properly engineered to withstand the harmful effects of the elements.
