DomeShelter Fabric Structure mine site egypt

Sukari is Egypt’s first large-scale modern mine, located in the Nubian Desert in Egypt’s South East, close to the Red Sea. The mine is a joint project between Centamin and the Egyptian Government.

It is a combination of an open-pit mine and an underground mine, with an estimated gold reserve of 15.4 million ounces.

In ancient times, Egypt was a prolific producer of gold, and Centamin believes the country’s mining industry has significant scope for expansion – especially in the Arabian Nubian Shield, where Sukari is located, which is one of the world’s few remaining underexplored gold belts.

Centamin

Centamin runs the mine and manages all mine operations, employing nearly 4000 workers across their open pit and underground projects.

Since the mine began production in 2009, Centamin has worked with DomeShelter Australia on several fully engineered, genuine DomeShelter™ Structures. The Sukari mine is located in a remote, isolated desert region, where the landscape and climate are unforgiving. A solution to protect Centamin’s people and assets from the harmful effects of the elements was vital to uphold their dedication to a safe and healthy work environment.

The following are just a few of the DomeShelter™ Structures provided to Centamin, manufactured in Western Australia and shipped to the mine in rural Egypt:

  • 12m wide by 12.2m long Container Mounted DomeShelter™ Structure (CMDS), with a fully-framed Endwall (x2)
  • 17m wide by 18.3m long CMDS with custom Endwall
  • 23m wide by 24.2m long CMDS with Endwall
  • 18m wide by 18.3m long CMDS with Endwall
  • 21m wide by 18.3m long CMDS with Endwall
  • 15m wide by 18.3m long Post Mounted DomeShelter Structure with a Partial Endwall
  • 21m wide by 24.4m long CMDS

One of Sukari’s superintendents praised DomeShelter Australia’s dedication to providing a smooth customer journey; “Great communication with prompt replies, [always] a seamless project from start to finish,” he said, continuing by saying DomeShelter Australia are “always my first choice for Shelters for my projects”.
