Synergy is WA’s leading electricity generator and retailer, powering over one million residential, commercial, and industrial customers across the state. As part of their long-term infrastructure planning, Synergy required a robust on-site storage solution for heavy machinery and bulk materials at their Pinjar power station in the northern Perth metro region.
The Challenge
With tight spatial constraints and a need for modular, agile infrastructure, they partnered with DomeShelter Australia to engineer a fit-for-purpose DomeShelter™ Structure that would easily integrate into the existing site and meet their operational requirements with minimal disruptions to their ongoing operations.
Located in Perth’s semi-rural outer metro region, Pinjar experiences hot, dry summers and wet winters, conditions that demand weather-resilient, UV-resistant infrastructure.
Synergy needed a DomeShelter™ Solution that could be:
- Deployed quickly without interrupting day-to-day operations
- Used initially for a maintenance project, then repurposed for long-term storage
- Adapted to tight on-site access and existing infrastructure
The DomeShelter™ Solution
Fit-for-Purpose Design & Tailored Engineering
DomeShelter Australia delivered a DomeShelter™ Solution that provided immediate protection for their turbines and was easily adapted to serve as a general storage facility once the turbine maintenance project was complete.
DomeShelter Australia supplied a container-mounted DomeShelter™ TRUSS Structure measuring 17m wide x 24.4m long, with a Super Rise height of 7.2m. The structure was engineered to AS1170.2 design criteria for Wind Region B and Terrain Category 2.

The shelter was manufactured locally in Western Australia and shipped in a secure flat-pack with full installation documentation. Its modular design meant it could be installed quickly, with minimal disruption to the site or ongoing operations.
Constructed with high-tensile, hot-dip galvanised TRUSS Hoop sections and Armourtex® 400 white tear-stop fabric, the structure provides high strength, UV resistance, and long-term performance under harsh conditions.
Outcomes
Long-Term Infrastructure Investment
The shelter is designed with a 20 year design life (in accordance with AS1170.2-2021), allowing Synergy to consolidate its bulk material storage in a single, purpose-built structure that will remain durable and low-maintenance for decades.
Fast, Non-Disruptive Deployment
Because the DomeShelter™ Structure was container-mounted and pre-engineered adjacent to the installation site, it slotted into the Pinjar facility with minimal interference to ongoing operations. Installation was completed efficiently without the need for heavy foundations or long lead times.
Operational Efficiency
The generous internal height and unobstructed layout provide clear access for vehicles, machinery and foot traffic, as well as ample storage space.
Low Environmental Impact
DomeShelter™ Structures are engineered to be relocatable and reusable, giving Synergy the flexibility needed for their evolving site needs. The durable, recyclable components such as the Armourtex400® tarp also align with long-term sustainability goals.
