DomeShelter Australia set out a number of years ago to actively ensure the impacts of the Australian mining cycles of the past were minimised by broadening our reach to the international market.

Australian Mining Boom

Most Australian business with exposure to the mining sector benefited greatly from the so-called mining booms of the past, and DomeShelter Australia was in that boat. However, the end of the boom proved challenging as sales decreased and our over reliance on the mining sector was exposed.

“Recessions teach resourcefulness” is another saying that can only be fully embraced at the other end of the recession, looking back to see the fruits of the lessons learnt and implemented.

Decision to Expand

DomeShelter Australia made a deliberate decision to expand into international markets in order to reduce our exposure to the mining cycles in Australia. We already had many successful sales to international markets, primarily as a result of Australian based clients expanding their operations into Africa and Asia. In fact, at that stage we had exported Fabric Structures to 22 countries in Asia, African and Oceania.

Exporting a Fabric Structure

Exporting a Fabric Structure is relatively easy. They are packed down into kit form and loaded into a sea container for transport to site and then assembled on-site mostly by client’s own teams following installation instructions provided. And, Australia has some of the highest engineering standards in the world, so shelters manufactured for Australian conditions are sure to meet the standards in other countries.

As a result of a deliberate strategy to expand our footprint in the international market, DomeShelter Australia now has active agents in the Africa, Middle East and Latin America, who are kicking goals with sales to local and international companies in those regions. To date we have exported to 30 countries and we expect that number to continue increasing.

Whilst boom times have returned to the Australian mining sector, the world wide opportunities for Fabric Structures in far flung and remote locations is increasing.

By going through lean times, the character of the company has grown, and we are now a far more resourceful and resilient team looking forward to making our mark on the world.
